Abstract

The present investigation serves as a reference to the coastal society of the different neighborhoods of the city of Bluefields. The general objective is to evaluate the impact that the migratory phenomenon causes in relation to the socioeconomic situation of Afro-descendant families of workers in tourist boats (on-board) from Punta Fría neighborhood in of Bluefields city, Nicaragua, during the 2008 period. The research was developed with the participation of Afro-descendant families from Punta Fría neighborhood that have an on-board member; the on-board ones that were of vacations and the supplying agencies of employment source in the tourist boats. The methodological approach used for the development of this research was of an interpretative, participatory and cross-sectional nature, in complementarity with quantitative and qualitative methods. The majority of the families consulted consider that they have improved their economic living conditions by 80%. After analyzing the effects that fall on the family, it shows that family stability has also disintegrated, because the members of these families stay longer outside the country than close to their families. The agencies have played an important role in hiring many people to work in these tourist boats, providing the population from the coast with a subsistence alternative for families.
